I am an experienced and highly trained learning support worker with several years experience of working with children and young people. I specialise in children with additional needs, whether that is because of neurodiversity, mental health or environmental issues. I have a valid and up to date DBS check and I have all relevant safeguarding training to date.
Group work is an effective way of developing skills and understanding of specific topics as well as encouraging team work, confidence building and communication skills.
Some strategies my mental health workshops promote are exercise, healthy sleeping patterns, breathwork, accepting support and making time for interests
I offer small group workshops and interventions specifically for the development of social, emotional and communication skills as well as promoting positive mental health.
All of my workshops can be tailored and differentiated to meet the needs of those who want to access the content. It is important to me that these workshops are accessible for all ages and accessible for people with additional needs.
Neurodiversity is an area I specialise in which includes:-
The workshops can be delivered both internally and externally which includes school settings and other settings such as foster homes and PRU's. I request a private space where i can create a safe space to encourage effective learning. I request access to a white board or similar and access to a computer if possible to deliver my workshops.
I also run workshops privately in the half term holidays from a provision in Saltaire which is easily accessible from most parts of Bradford.
Poor self-esteem can manifest itself as a number of problems in children. It can contribute to anxiety, academic problems, depression, behavioural issues, and more. Building a foundation of high self-esteem can help children gain the confidence to face their problems, and begin implementing skills.
Understanding what positive and negative friendships/relationships look like is very important for a child's well-being. Especially those children who may be more vulnerable due to developmental delays. A positive relationship can have a positive impact on self-esteem and feeling supported in all areas of life.
Recognising and naming emotions is important for everyone so that we can express how we feel. These workshops build emotional literacy and identify emotions as we feel them. This workshop also looks at triggers and physical sensations that can go alongside specific emotions and how we can better manage those.
Anger is a very strong emotion and although anger can be displayed outwardly there are often underlying emotions to it such as sadness or loneliness. It is important to explore what anger is, why we feel anger and what emotions underneath are triggering this. We will look at events that may cause anger, what we can do to manage anger and how we can use coping strategies and de-escalation skills.
We look at what stress is and how the feeling of being stressed impacts lives. We look at how stress presents in us physically, emotionally and mentally and what we can do to manage these. This workshop includes identifying negative habits or behaviours and replacing or reducing these with more positive behaviours that can be added to a daily routine.
This is a word that we hear so much more from our young people than we ever have before. The
workshop looks at what anxiety is and the difference between good and bad anxiety. The impact of feeling anxious can feel very different for each of us and we need to be able to identify the physical and emotional signs so that anxiety is identified sooner in order to self-regulate more effectively.
Sadly many young people will develop mental a health issue during their time at school and these can last for short or long periods of time.
Mental health and attitude to learning go hand in hand and if a child has positive mental health they will do better in all aspects of their lives.
My workshops can be tailored to meet the needs of the clients and range from a minimum of 1 hour workshops up to a full day workshop. I can deliver more than one topic in the session and combine topics where appropriate.
Within my workshops i will be continually challenging any negative or intrusive thoughts using basic CBT skills to begin a change in these thought processes. I will work with the internal voice that we all have that tells us what we believe about ourselves on the inside regardless of how we present on the outside. This can be really powerful in unlocking the barriers to social, emotional and communication skills and can start to create a more positive internal prospective of the self.
